Special Potato Scone

Special Potato Scone

What the Judges will be looking for?

This traditional Scottish product is the exception to the rule and will be judged as a separate product within the Scone Class.

No restrictions apply to size, weight, shape or flavour.

The judges will be looking for:

  • a well baked product from the hot plate
  • a good potato flavour
  • a bright, crumb colour
  • a balanced flavour and not salty
  • a resilient product with a shortness in the texture
  • a product that is not too thick like a potato cake, although this will not be excluded from judging.

English crumpets, Scottish pancakes or crumpets do not qualify for this class.

Who Are We?

Scottish Baker of the Year began in 2012 by the trade association Scottish Bakers. It rewards top quality baked goods made in Scotland by hard working bakers every single day.

Any Scottish bakers can put forward up to 10 of their star products to be judged and their customers can vote for them in the Customer Choice Awards.
