Morning Roll (Buttery)

Morning Roll (Buttery)

What the Judges will be looking for?

Although this product maybe, depending on location, considered a type of morning roll, it is unreasonable to be judged against a traditional style morning roll and will be judged separately yet within the Morning Roll class.

The Buttery, contrary to the name, may not contain butter and be a roll dough enriched with a vegetable or animal fat.

The judges will look for:

  • a well-baked product with a good baked colour
  • a reasonable shape
  • an element of layering in the texture and not simply a dough
  • slight crispiness
  • a good flavour with no palate cling
  • a well flavoured and not excessively salty product

Who Are We?

Scottish Baker of the Year began in 2012 by the trade association Scottish Bakers. It rewards top quality baked goods made in Scotland by hard working bakers every single day.

Any Scottish bakers can put forward up to 10 of their star products to be judged and their customers can vote for them in the Customer Choice Awards.
