What the Judges will be looking for?
Variation between products is likely to be significant in this category, therefore each product will be evaluated on the merit of the baked product within its own product type.
The judges will not necessarily be looking for complex and lavishly finished cake – simply the best in flour confectionery.
As no refrigeration facility exists at the judging hall, the use of fresh cream should be avoided, as by the time judging commences the product may have deteriorated and cannot be fairly judged.
Presentation, appearance, finish and very importantly flavour will be the main attributes of the product.
Scottish Baker of the Year began in 2012 by the trade association Scottish Bakers. It rewards top quality baked goods made in Scotland by hard working bakers every single day.
Any Scottish bakers can put forward up to 10 of their star products to be judged and their customers can vote for them in the Customer Choice Awards.
